archeological find Crosby Garrett Roman Helmet in Penrith

Dear Jef,

I hope you are very well, and thank you for your email regarding the Crosby Garrett Roman Helmet.

After its discovery the helmet was auctioned off at Christie’s auction house in London. Carlisle’s Tullie House Museum did hope to buy it, however it was sold for £2.2m to an anonymous bidder. (I think you were kept up to date at the time about this.) Since them, I am afraid that the buyer’s identity has remained private, however the Helmet remains in the UK.

The good news is that the Helmet is making its way back to Cumbria for the Hadrian’s Cavalry Exhibition which starts this month. It will be on display at Carlisle’s Tullie House Museum, and I have copied in the link for the online leaflet for more information:

Please get in touch if you are ever in London and would like to meet up,

With best wishes,

Rory
