FILM INA VANDEBROECK: ETHNOBOTANY AND CONSERVATION IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

The Dominican Republic has a rich cultural heritage of plants for healthcare and biodiversity conservation. This video interview took place in Monte Plata in the Parque de la Biodiversidad and was part of the development of ethnobotanical trails for ecotourism in response to a request by the Dominican government. The video shows Mr. Pablo Mena Vasquez, a local community member, talking about a Dominican “botella” (herbal mixture) and demonstrates his vast knowledge about the importance of plants for community healthcare and conservation of biodiversity.
No scientific plant names were added to the video to protect the Intellectual Property Rights of local communities.
